Wednesday Brunch 'n Bible Study

"So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God." ~ 1 Corinthians 10:31

Talking 1Tim1!

I  love reading Timothy. Thinking about Paul writing to his protege, encouraging him, teaching him, reminding him. He was his mentor!!

Can you personalize this letter as if Paul wrote it to YOU in YOUR mission field? QUESTION: Is mentoring important in YOUR life? As a mentor or in being mentored by others?

Verse 4 talks about discussions of myths and meaningless speculations (I’m in the NLT if yours is a bit different) “which don’t help people live a life of faith in God”. QUESTION: Have you seen this happen with Christians in your life? How do you encourage others to bring it back to faith?

Oo! False prophets! They’ve been running amok as long as Timothy was in Ephesus (longer, really). QUESTION: How can you recognize false teachers today?

In reading verses 12-17 it makes me think about how we can let our pasts stop us from doing God’s work because we don’t think we’re worthy. QUESTION: Has this ever been an issue for you? If so, did you overcome it or do you still struggle with it? What do you think about what Paul says here?

Verse 19 is SO encouraging! “Cling to your faith in Christ and keep your conscience clear.” QUESTION: Talk about this verse and how we can apply it in our lives.

NOW that you’ve read and studied 1Tim1 — take any one of these questions or all of them and answer in the comment section below. Let’s talk about it!!!

Bible Divers: Spring On-line Bible Study!

Welcome to our first-ever on-line Bible study! I’m SO excited to be doing this with all of you!

This post is going to explain to you how our on-line study will work and how you participate.

First. We’re going to start with a six-chapter book of the Bible: 1 Timothy. A letter. Something we all understand and enjoy. I love to get letters (or emails!) and send letters (or emails!). Don’t you? Each week you’ll read and ponder a chapter. I’ll keep you on track here at the ‘ol blog as to where we’re at. We’ll go Wednesday-to-Wednesday.

So — we’ll start THIS WEEK, March 19-26 with 1 Timothy 1.

I really like the S.O.A.P. method of study:

  • Scripture (Read the prescribed scripture)
  • Observation (What do you observe?)
  • Application (How does what you’ve read and observed apply to your life RIGHT NOW?)
  • Prayer ( Pray and ask God to help you apply what you’ve just read and observed.)

There’s a great little one-page website about S.O.A.P. method of pure Bible study and you can check it out HERE.

Read the scripture any way and in any increments you like. During the week, I’ll be posting a few questions here in the comment section of THIS blog post (comment box is alllllll the way at the bottom of the page). You can respond or ask your own questions or make your own comments. We can respond to one another easily. This creates “threads” which are easy-to-follow conversations.

I also recommend you subscribe to this blog so you get an update every time there is a new blog post. I will moderate all the comments so we won’t have any spammers or inappropriate postings.

If you’re unsure about doing Bible study this way I ask you to at least give it a shot for these six chapters of dear Timothy. THEN decide. Your feedback to change, amend, improve, etc., is always welcome!

NOW — Let’s get started and DIVE IN to 1 Timothy 1!!!
